Our time in Brazil

Our time in Brazil

A couple of weeks ago we went and visited Dave and Bianca (Matt’s parent’s) in Salvador Brazil, where they are serving as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The time that we spent there with them was beyond precious. The last time we saw Dave had been 2 years ago and Venice wasn’t even born yet, so being reunited was so special. This trip will always have a special place in our hearts. So I thought I would list the good moments and the funny ones that we want to remember. Good Moments: Nonna singing Stocky to sleep every night and him looking into her eyes like they were in a movie love scene. Nonna has a great voice and he was so captivated. Watching NCIS like the old days with Matt’s parents and eating popsicles. Waiting to see the monkeys eat the bananas from Dave and Bianca’s windows every morning. Stockton performing and singing songs about 4Life and Nonna and Nonno on the piano. Eating the best ceviche of my life and then eating a second plate of it all in the same meal. Watching Stockton play in the water with Nonna and laughing his head off. Watching Matt eat acai bowls until he couldn’t eat anymore. Eating Bianca’s famous grilled cheese sandwiches. (I think they are the best because she makes them with love) Realizing how much Matt is a little Dave in so many ways. Walking into Dave’s office and seeing all the missionaries they tend to on a daily basis and feeling overwhelmed by the spirit. Getting fathers blessings and feeling renewed to become even better and work harder spiritually. Matt and I Touring Old Town Salvador with Dave. Also trying the best limeade concoction ever from a street vendor that Dave introduced us to. He thought Dave was a tour guide because of his missionary tag. We had a good laugh about that. Watching Dave and Bianca hold hands with stocky while walking. Seeing Dave and Venice meet for the very first time. Funny Moments: When Stocky peed his pants on our last flight and he went around pantless all over the mall in just a pull up. Watching Stocky and Matt ride a mechanical lion that they drove around the Mall. Dave bribing Stocky with a quarter if he would sleep in the car. He did. He’s become very motivated by money now. Stocky using his quarter to buy a turtle at the aquarium but then asking for it back. Not really understanding the concept of money yet. Dave and Bianca both lifting up stocky in the air so he could touch the sting ray. Stocky’s face pure joy! When...

Bangkok Thailand

Bangkok Thailand

We just touched down back in KL after being in Bangkok, Thailand for the week. My heart hurts a little bit because of the love I have for Thailand. There is something about that place, that has been so magical for me. I tried to really savor every moment I had there because I didn’t want to forget anything about it. It seems once you leave a vacation you catch amnesia and it all feels like a dream. Which as I’m typing this I’m thinking ‘did that all really happen?’ One thing is for sure when I get to heaven someday, I’m asking for replays of Thailand so that I can live it all over again. Matt had business in Bangkok and so I begged him to tag along. Matt seriously is amazing you guys, he will always usually take me along, as long as he’s not going anywhere he thinks would be dangerous for us. There are some sacrifices involved, I know he needs to go to meetings during the day and get the things done he came for, but he always leaves me an extra day or two to take me around. So usually during the time before the adventure we hang out in the room, watch movies, order room service,  chill by the pool, and Matt joins us for dinner and then we go and do some exploring. We really had only a couple of days of exploring Bangkok, but Matt and I just love to go go go on trips. So naturally that’s what we did this time as well. We always laugh because I think we catch amnesia with how hard traveling with Stockton can be sometimes. For example every time we go somewhere we never have a car seat and trying to get a toddler to sit still in a moving car is nearly impossible. So let me just give a shout out to my boy Steve Jobs for creating the iPad because without it folks living in a foreign country would be near impossible. However, no matter how hard it may be at times Matt and I have always made a promise that having kids wouldn’t stop us from exploring the world together and going on many adventures and we have done just that. We hit up The Grand Palace first. This place was insane. Every thing coated in gold color, it was so shiny your eyes felt like you were looking at the sun. The detail that went into making this place was incredible. I’m talking like 1 inch small tiles making a pattern on a wall or on a statue that alone took months and months to create. I kept...

Palawan Philippines

Palawan Philippines

I’m still dreaming of our anniversary trip we took with Matt’s sister Jenna. It was beyond magical, words cannot even express the magic of it all. Matt had been planning on a surprise anniversary trip for some time now, due to the fact he would be working in Indonesia on our anniversary. I am usually pretty good about figuring out where he is taking me, but this time it really was a shock. After the 4Life convention was over Matt had us take a small plane ride to an island, where we than took a little boat for 45 minutes to an island. As we were on the boat, I’m literally looking at these enormous mountains of greenery in the middle of the ocean and the blue water thinking, “Where on earth are we going?” As we started rolling up closer to the resort Matt pointed out our resort. I looked and there were these little cabana huts on a little private island literally in the middle of the ocean. I started to cry. I just felt so overwhelmed of my blessings, the fact that I could be in such a beautiful place with the people I loved overwhelmed me. I just couldn’t help but to think, how do I deserve this? Our week activities there involved snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, sunset crusing, island hoping, and caving. It was not always easy-going on all of these adventures with our toddler but he was a trooper. Taking naps on the boats seemed to help out a bit, it would generally rock him right to sleep. His love for the beach however concurred his desire for anything else, he didn’t even want to eat if he was on the beach, he just wanted to throw rocks, splash in the water, and dig holes. He particularly loved swinging in the hammock. The waters were so clear I could look down from the Kayak and literally name the fish I was looking at and the sand was so fine and white it felt like powder. It was so nice to just be embodied in nature. We also loved having aunt Jenna with us. I love her adventurous spirit and how she’s always up for a good time. She made the trip that much more fun. I have to say the highlight of the whole trip was when Jenna watched Stockton for a little bit and we took a kayak out right before sunset. We just paddled out into the middle of the ocean and we felt all alone and just listened to the sound of the silence and breathed in the fresh air. We talked about our blessings and just laughed and smiled...

spending the day with an elephant

spending the day with an elephant

One of my favorite places in the world has to be Chiang Mai, Thailand. The friendliest people you’ll meet, the amazing culture, food, and the atmosphere of being in the mountains is beyond compare to so many places I’ve been. Yesterday I got the opportunity to spend the day with an elephant and I think this made me love Thailand even more. In the morning time we learned what makes an elephant healthy vs. unhealthy. We learned elephants show emotions just like humans. We fed the elephants, talked with them, and bonded with them. We took them down to a waterfall where we proceeded to get on top of the elephant and bath them. We scrubbed and splashed around with them. My elephants name was Boon. He is 13 years old and I got so attached to him I didn’t want to say goodbye. It was so amazing how we were able to connect over the day. When we were in the water I kept talking to him and he was looking me straight in the eye and It was like I knew he understood me. We had such a special connection. I then proceeded to give him a big hug and continued bathing him, when all of a sudden he pulled me back with his trunk to give him another hug. The trainers were laughing because they couldn’t believe how much Boon loved me, but trust me the feeling was mutual. When it came to riding Boon it was nerve racking at first because I didn’t want to hurt him. This being an elephant sanctuary I knew he was very loved and so I decided ride him. He was so far above the ground and occasionally we would stop by the side of the trail for his snack of bamboo. It was crazy to realize how strong his trunk was as he ripped the bamboo from the tree.  You could hear it crushing like a bone in his mouth as he chomped away. There was a moment while riding bonn that I was taken away in thought as I looked around at the unreal scenery of the jungle of Thailand. I felt so tall and yet felt no fear. I looked down below me as this incredible creature carried me up into the mountains and just felt the blessing and the beauty of life that God has given me. This was a dream, not only riding Boon but looking in front of me to see all my family having this experience with me. Tears filled my eyes a bit as I’ve always dreamed to take them to the parts of the world I have experience alongside me. Life...
